Next Steps in Nepal: Advancing Global Health with RAD-AID
Welcome to our latest update from the front lines of imaging informatics! As a passionate advocate for advancing medical imaging and informatics in underserved regions, I'm thrilled to share insights from the recent Canada Health Infoway: "Radiology Without Borders: RAD-AID’s Global Impact and Informatics Initiatives." This enlightening session spotlighted the critical work being done by organizations like RAD-AID to bring state-of-the-art radiology services to developing countries.
Lessons from Nepal
Last year, I had the privilege of going to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was an enriching experience, arriving six months after the implementation of Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). Our focus was on optimizing workflow, improving the network, and bolstering educational programs for the local team—a mission we are continuing this year.
Next Steps: Education and Implementation
The return to Nepal next week marks a continuation of the efforts to advance these initiatives. This trip is particularly timely, as RAD-AID has recently chosen to adopt "IMG_101: Introduction to Imaging Informatics" as an educational tool for their member hospitals. TUTH benefits from having a proficient PACS Administrator, Binod, who was recently enrolled in "IMG_101: Introduction to Imaging Informatics." We’re excited about pairing the asynchronous learning with in-person activities next week!
